Idols are everywhere, and the evil servants are entrapping men; they believe in God in name, but are controlled by man. Where are those who love God? Where are those who seek? It was this hymn that touched me and caused me to come before Almighty God. It is the real portrayal of the brothers’ and sisters’ hard experiences of preaching the gospel in following Almighty God, as well as the real portrayal of God’s love and salvation for man. “Being ferocious and vicious” and “lifting up swords and clubs,” are exactly the real portrayal of my ugly face of resisting and disobeying God. This hymn reminds me of my regrettable past….

I am Sun Yongping, formerly a co-worker of a house church. Because I was single, without family burdens, and was willing to pursue to make progress, the church paid special attention to training me. So I often had chances to work and study in other places. In recent years, every time I went to work out of town, I came back loaded with rumors about “the Eastern Lightning.” Unconsciously, I was deeply poisoned. Especially after I read a book called Refute the Cult the Eastern Lightning, I was more encouraged to resist the Almighty God. Without verification or investigation, I had a strong aversion and hostility to this “way” that I knew nothing about. So, I joined others in rebuking and refuting “the Eastern Lightning,” and even mobilized all the brothers and sisters to curse “the Eastern Lightning” in their daily prayers. Meanwhile, I also heard the rumors say, “The means of ‘the Eastern Lightning’ is extremely cruel. If you do not accept what they preach, they will use violence on you, such as gouging out your eyes, cutting off your nose, or cutting off your ears. Besides, they will seduce you with beauty or buy you off with money. And as long as you accept their ‘way,’ they will give you whatever you lack. …” Soon those rumors were spread everywhere. The entire religious world accepted them to be true. And I felt more hatred, hostility, and fear toward this “way.” All day long I lived in dread, fearing that I might “lose my footing” and fall into the “trap” of “the Eastern Lightning.”

One day in the winter of 1995, the senior leader called us leaders in different areas together. At the meeting, he said, “Now there arose a sect called the ‘Eastern Lightning.’ They say that God came into the flesh again. They’ve departed from the Bible It’s purely a heresy, from a false Christ. There’s an evil spirit in their book. If you read it, you will be captivated…” I believed these words to be true and began to hate the people of the “Eastern Lightning.” I made up my mind: I will be a faithful servant of the Lord, and will protect the flock and prevent any of them from being snatched away by the “Eastern Lightning.” After I came back, I spread the senior leader’s words in the churches, “The ‘Eastern Lightning’ is a ‘heresy,’ a ‘cult,’ and a ‘mafia.’ They are deceiving people everywhere. Once you join them, you can’t withdraw. If you want to withdraw, they will kidnap your family and break your legs or gouge out your eyes. Everyone must be careful not to be deceived by them.” I also made some rules as a precaution in the churches: Every church worker must guard the church carefully and ensure that no one receives strangers or fellowships with them about belief in God. Whoever has contacted the people of the “Eastern Lightning” must confess his sin and curse the “Eastern Lightning” before all the believers. All this made the brothers and sisters nervous, and they were all afraid of being deceived by the “Eastern Lightning.”

From then on, whichever church I went to, I wantonly spread the elder’s words and even made up the rumor: “This gang of people of ‘Eastern Lightning’ are promiscuous, extremely filthy.” In order to better prevent the brothers and sisters from being converted to “Eastern Lightning,” I personally taught them in detail how to guard against and resist it.

My name is Yao Qingping. I believed in Jesus in 1992. Later I became a leader in China Gospel Fellowship, shepherding more than six hundred people. In 1998, I heard some rumors about “Eastern Lightning” from my upper co-worker, which said, “They are of an underworld organization and they have no clear boundaries between the two sexes. They will receive 150,000 yuan if they convert a leader and 20,000 yuan an ordinary believer. If one withdraws after accepting their way, they will break his legs, disfigure his face, or cut off his ears. …” Hearing these rumors that could not stand up, I believed them without making any discernment and couldn’t help feeling hatred toward the believers in “Eastern Lightning.” After I went back to the church, I wantonly spread the rumors I had heard and said angrily, “They say that God has come, and they have even changed the name of Jesus, saying that the name is Almighty God. These are pure lies. Never believe them. If anyone comes to your home to preach, don’t let him in. If he gives you books, never read them. Hand them over to the church to be burned together.” From then on, I began to rush about “guarding the flock” and regarded the preachers of Almighty God as enemies. As a result, I committed many conscienceless and hair-raising crimes.
